WHO IS BEHIND YOUR BRAND?
Julia, the founder of Saffron & Rose:
I was born in a tiny city in the Urals in the family of musicians. My family is a mix of cultures: my grandmother was Ukranian and my grandfather was Armenian, born and raised in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. My husband is French with Polish roots and we speak three languages within our house in our everyday life. The passion for travel led me to discover over 80 countries and that is how I found the love and inspiration in the diversity of the world, peoples, their cultures, traditions and crafts. After years of searching for my own path, something that could light the fire inside and combine all that I crave for – art, travels, beauty and a purpose, one day the idea came up to me in the twinkling of an eye, right after I gave a birth to my baby girl in California. And that is how I got back to my roots.
Samarkand is the city of my childhood. I cherish the memories of our summers in the Margilan street family house, with huge tables full of Uzbek delicious meals, fleeing the summer heat under the grape trees, with all the relatives together, safe and sound. The city itself is a pure gem – this is where Uzbek, Armenians, Tajiks, Iranians, Tatars, Europeans, Koreans, Bukharan Jews coexist peacefully, their cultures, languages and traditions collide and form a vivid cultural canvas.
Silk Ikat and suzanis have put a spell on me. I feel deepest passion when I see these fabrics in the making, when I touch them or anticipate my new fabric orders, when we discuss the pattern with an artisan from the Fergana Valley. It’s a dreamlike feeling that doesn’t fade. I’ve been caught in the magic of this incredible art.
This is where I started, inspired by my Central Asia and by my daughter Kaia. And I hope I will be able to continue my journey to preserve, connect and mix the crafts of the world and fit them in the frame of urban style and individuality.
With love,
Julia
WHERE DO YOU PRODUCE YOUR GARMENTS?
In the meantime our garments are being produced partly in Uzbekistan by our talented hereditary artisans and partly in Georgia by our amazing tailors.
ARE YOU SUSTAINABLE?
We care about sustainability and here’s what we do to maintain it within Saffron & Rose:
Our products are handmade
Every garment is hand-made and minimum of equipment is used in its production, which allows us to reduce our carbon emissions.
We are zero-waste
We call our production ‘zero waste’ as we only make as many items as we can sell and we use the left-over fabrics to create small accesoires such as elastic scrunshies, hat bows and ribbons.
Decent working conditions
It’s extremely important for us to provide decent working conditions for our tailors – safe jobs and competitive wages. We follow the principles of equality with our tailors, sewers and artisans and ethical principles of business conduct.
Timelessness
We support slow fashion and strive to create pieces that will last for years.
Natural materials
We use natural materials in our collections such organic silk and cotton.
Eco-packaging
Each SR piece is packaged in a reusable linen bag that can be used in everyday life afterwards.
WHERE DO YOU FIND THE FABRICS FOR YOUR GARMENTS?
Оrganic silk and cotton are harvested in Uzbekistan and hand-crafted into the incredible Adras (Ikat) fabrics that we use to create our pieces. Suzani hand embroideries are also from different regions of Uzbekistan, mainly Samarkand, Bukhara and Tashkent and less often from Tajikistan.
WHAT MAKES YOUR FABRICS SO SPECIAL?
We use really special fabrics to create our amazing garments and these are not just words – genuine hand-woven Uzbek Adras (also known as Ikat) fabric is woven in narrow loom using ancient techniques in Uzbekistan. Ikat is the ancient Uzbek art of hand dyeing and then hand weaving silk and cotton threads into bright and vibrant traditional and complex designs. This process hasn’t changed in centuries. Ikat manufacturing consists of 12 steps of traditional hand craft considered as endangered due to globalization. They have become a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage and truly a symbol of Central Asia. These fabrics are not only super hard to create but also very hard to find.
SELECTING AND ORDERING
WHAT IS YOUR SIZE CHART?

We have covered sizes from XS to XXL in our kimonos.

DO YOU HAVE GARMENTS FOR MEN?

CAN I BUY A SINGLE ITEM FROM A SET?
We do not currently offer this option. However we do have multi-piece sets and we are working non-stop at expanding our range of accessories so that you could add, style and mix your set as your heart desires!
HOW DO YOU PACK YOUR GARMENTS?
All orders are packed in reusable linen bags which can be used in everyday life. Small garments such as kimonos, dresses and accessories are wrapped in perfumed paper additionally.
CAN I HAVE MY ORDER SENT TO SOMEONE AS A GIFT WITH A GIFT NOTE?

Sure thing, but please do reach out to us regarding this before placing the order or leave a note at checkout in the “comment’ column.
WILL AN OUT-OF-STOCK ITEM BE BACK IN STOCK?
Coats: each of our suzani coats is unique, however we can make a very similar model and sometimes the coats look alike because of the patterns and colors.
Puffers, kimono sets and dresses made of silk or cotton Ikat: please subscribe via the “Notify me” button on the product’s page to learn when the item you loved is back in stock.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY GARMENT IF IT’S A PREORDER PIECE?
Please refer to the product’s description on the product’s page. It contains the information regarding the time of the production.
HOW MANY PROMO CODES CAN I USE WITH MY PURCHASE?
Only one promo code can be used during the purchase, promo codes can’t be combined.
DO YOU HAVE SALES?
We create timeless pieces in small quantities. Our collection is divided into 2 permanent seasons and the models remain unchanged. The cost of our fabrics is very high. These fabrics are rare, expensive and constantly growing in price. Demand for them exceeds supply. Manual labor has nothing to do with industrial large-scale production. We initially set a reasonable price therefore we don’t have seasonal sales. But here’s some amazing news: we offer some really good special offers and promo codes to our subscribers. So join the list if you don’t want to miss them!
CAN I PLACE AN ORDER FOR A MADE-TO-MEASURE ITEM?
You can order a custom suzani coat with us and a made-to-measure kimono/kaftan/kimono set. Please refer to the PRE-ORDER page for our fabrics selection.
Our size chart for the coats covers sizes from XS to XXL.
